Local Philanthropy & Service
In addition to raising money and awareness for arthritis and related diseases, our sisters recognize the importance of giving back in many other ways.
Zeta Pi hosts three annual philanthropy events throughout the academic year in order to support the Arthritis Foundation. During the fall, our chapter hosts a womanless beauty pageant called 'AOII Queen,' at which different organizations on campus are invited to participate in. In the spring semester, Zeta Pi hosts 'Smoke Out Arthritis,' an event at which we sell barbecue sandwiches, along with our signature softball tournament event, 'Strike Out Arthritis!'
Our chapter also participates in the philanthropy events of other organizations on campus in order to support and promote awareness of the philanthropies of members of fraternities and sororities in all councils. Zeta Pi also partners with other organizations on campus in order to support or raise money for various local charities, like our blood drive with Lambda Chi Alpha, 'Pie a Pi' with Pi Kappa Phi, and a donut sale with Beta Chi Theta.
Along with philanthropy events, Zeta Pi members volunteer and participate in service opportunities in order to give back to the Birmingham community. Some of the service opportunities our sisters have participated in this year include: the UAB MLK Day of Service, Habitat for Humanity, Blazerthon, various chapter sponsored service drives, UAB Relay for Life, Jingle Bell Run, and UAB Into the Streets Service Day. Some of the organizations and institutions that Zeta Pi sisters have volunteered their time to throughout the 2015-2016 year are: Children's Hospital of Alabama, Red Mountain Park, Spirit of Luke, Blount County Animal Shelter, MPower Ministries, Greater Birmingham Humane Society, UAB LSC Ongoing Service, United Way, and the Bell Center.
